Comenius-Project "Mobility of the future2"

2006-2009

The Comenius-Project on "Mobility of the future" has been planned for a period of three years by Humboldtschule Berlin-Tegel and its partner schools in Denmark, Hungary and Italy.

After a successful first phase, we head for the next round: The European Commission has given the green light to continue the project until summer 2009!

What is it all about and what is our aim?

In a interdisciplinary project students of grades 10-13 of the four partner schools in Berlin, Slagelse, Rome and Budapest address themselves to issues of mobility in the future. They research and work on the changes and modifications towards more modern forms of mobility in everyday life of their home countries, taking ecological conditions and current technological innovations into special consideration.

What we've known for a long time:

The requirements and the future development of traffic and communication "the worldwide mobility so to speak" are closely connected to the challenges of the production of energy and environmental protection.

Those questions want to be answered thoroughly:

Can the humans'behavior, concerning mobility, e.g. on journeys or with city transport, be guided towards certain tracks? Can politics set a frame and provide incentives for changes that give help? Which technical equipment is available? Which of those are economically and ecologically sustainable?

During the first project year the four partner schools organized and carried out separate and only partially shared science experiments and social science research and opinion polls.

Together, they are now planning exhibitions and publications of their research for the years 2007-2009. They research on different forms of car engines of the future from a physical, chemical and biological point of view. They study flows of traffic and alternative possibilities of traffic control. Moreover they survey the people's behavior and expectations concerning mobility, amongst others from an ecological point of view. The growing necessity to reduce CO2 emissions will be of special importance.

Research is accompanied by creative activities, especially in the area of design. Here, concepts of future means of transportation are developed, considering aesthetic and functional aspects.

We also observe the press on a regular basis. A choice of headlines:

With this project we continue our cooperation with our partner schools in Slagelse, Budapest and Rome. Repeatedly it has proved of value at the "Science Congress" and "Comenius" and we continue functioning as coordinating school.
